1971 Morgan 4/4 4 Seater

Sale Price: SOLD - Another wanted

We are pleased to offer for sale this splendid Morgan 4/4 4-Seater. This is a truly excellent example of this timeless classic and according to its Morgan Factory Chassis Record, was despatched as a RHD on 6th September 1971 to the agent Tellimark Agricultural Supplies of New Guinea. The car made its way to Perth and was owned for many years by a Mr Eric Cecil. It was then passed to his son Peter Cecil in Victoria where the previous owner purchased the car around 2001. He drove the car for a few years and then undertook an extensive and high-quality restoration by specialist Nick Langford former owner of Historic and Vintage Restoration. This was completed around 2011. The current owner who is based in Queensland purchased the car in 2017 and has driven around 8,000 enjoyable miles in it over the last 5 years. Although an older restoration the car has driven few miles since the work was completed and is in outstanding condition. In every respect this example is just stunning and does not disappoint.

As part of the restoration the car had a colour change from its original Ivory to metallic blue. The paint quality is simply flawless and reflects the overall quality of the work.  There are small stone chips to the front area, but this is being picky.  Although not correct for the car, the colour suits it incredibly well and contrasts beautifully with the bright work. In the flesh it really is a wonder to behold.

All the stainless steel brightwork is like new and presents beautifully.

Turn the key and the engine fires up to a familiar Ford growl fuelled by twin Weber carburettors. Out on the open road this car is just superb. The gearbox is accurate, smooth and quick to work through the gears and using it is quite addictive. The timber gear knob is a nice finishing touch and underlines the attention to detail this car has received.

The engine is responsive and pulls well and given the cars weight makes for an entertaining drive. The exhaust note is great to hear, and the engine is very willing and really sings when worked. The suspension and excellent brakes only help in providing razor sharp handling. There are no squeaks or rattles which reflects how well this car has been put together.

As you would expect a compression test provides excellent readings. Being a 71 Morgan, it benefits from the use of the later Ford A711M block used for 1,599 cc engines. This having a thicker block wall, square main bearing caps, large diameter cam followers and other sort after developments. These changes represented a significant improvement in the reliability of the engines, and the blocks are commonly referred to as ‘711M’ blocks and more sought after by engine tuners.

The interior of this car is just lovely and features two very comfortable bucket seats and a rear bench seat, all beautifully trimmed in excellent quality leather. There are no signs of wear, and the carpets are all in fine order too.

Once seated, the Moto-Lita steering wheel greets you with the classic Smiths instruments all looking pin sharp and like new. The dash timber and gauges just look perfect to the eye. The five-digit odometer shows 16,953 miles, and we believe this is the total mileage since restoration.

The roof and side screens look like they have never been used and fit perfectly.

This is one well sorted car and a driver’s delight.

Morgan’s are rare cars and new ones are no longer imported to Australia. Few if any, would have benefited from the level of care and investment as this one has. This example presents as if it is still fresh from an extensive and thorough restoration, and this provides a great opportunity to acquire a wonderful Morgan at a fraction of the cost to restore one. The car is serviced, on the button and ready to go.
