1974 Alfa Romeo GT 1600 Junior
Sale Price: SOLD - Another wanted
When you see these Alfa’s you just want to get in and enjoy one of the most beautiful and finest driving models that Alfa Romeo has ever made, and this example will not disappoint.
This 1974 GT 1600 Junior is an original Australian delivery made to Artarmon in May that year as described in the supporting Heritage Certificate. This also confirms the car displays its original dark blue ‘Blu Olandese’ and interior of ‘Cinghiale Maremma’. This colour scheme is particularly appealing and works perfectly with the brightwork.
As a ‘Junior’ it comes with the more desirable twin binnacle dash seen on the earlier cars along with the smaller rear light clusters. These are seen as more aesthetically pleasing to collectors.
This car has clearly been well looked after by the current owner who has had it for over 10 enjoyable years. An expanding family is the reason for sale.
The paint and body are generally sound however there are imperfections as you expect from an older car. We suspect that much of the paint is original and showing its age in places.
All the stainless steel brightwork is in good order and sets the car off beautifully with only one small dent to the rear bumper. However, a new replacement bumper section accompanies the car. The wheels look original and are very presentable.
The interior of the car is just lovely and looks completely original, with everything as it should be. The original steering wheel greets you and the dash and dials are something that just looks perfect to the eye. There is one small crack on the dash, a small tear and parting seam to the driver’s seat, however these could be easily attended to. The carpet still retains its strong colour, and the dash and gauges look very sharp.
The head lining is correct and in fine condition with only minor marking at some edges and no sagging. There is one small tear, but this is being picky.
The car has had a replacement engine from a later Alfetta and a recent compression test delivered excellent results. Turn the key and the engine fires up to a familiar Alfa growl. Out on the open road this car is just superb. The gearbox is good with no synchro issues, it is accurate, smooth, and quick to work through the gears and using it is quite addictive. The engine is responsive and pulls well.
The engine bay is clean and appealing to the eye. The boot mat is correct and wheel well in sound condition. These 105’s are great driver’s cars, and we can see why they are so sought after. With freshly restored cars still fetching north of $100,000 this car represents good buying and one you can drive as is and improve over time.
