1968 Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV

Produced in July 1968 and delivered new to Hindmarsh NSW in September 1968, this series one 1750 GTV has the extremely rare and desirable Bertone De Luxe option of leather interior; ‘Pelle Rosso’, and this is confirmed by the Alfa Romeo Centro Documentazione which accompanies the car.
An exacting and full restoration has been undertaken on the car with little use since. The current owner is offering it for sale due to lack of use and a wish to thin down his collection. This presents a great opportunity for the next owner to purchase the car at a fraction of the cost of the initial investment.
This GTV was restored with the intention of creating a fast road car with modifications to reflect this approach. This included the use of a replacement 2-litre engine with 45mm Webers, new high compression pistons, bearings, timing chains, lightweight alternator and radiator amongst numerous other items. The motor was assembled by Vin Sharp, a known expert with these engines.
The body is just perfect and was subject to an extensive amount of work with Zoo Autocraft who are one of the best in the business and specialists with Alfa Romeo’s. The body was rebuilt on a jig with new floors, sills, doors, glass and aluminium boot lid. The chassis rails have been reinforced with an Alfaholics kit. The shell was stripped, and any compromised metal was replaced prior to painting in an Alfa Romeo Vesuvio metallic grey. Although this is a darker shade than the original metallic grey it suits the car very well and looks stunning. The paint is flawless, and the panel gaps are perfect ss you expect from a company known for their quality of work. The work to the body is documented and comes with the car.
Turn the key and the engine fires up with a familiar Alfa Romeo growl. Out on the open road this car is superb with plenty of power on tap. With a suspension set-up using Koni adjustable shock adsorbers with Classic Alfa fast road springs making it agile and responsive. Its handling would humble many sports cars of today.
The gearbox is easy to use with the Alfaholics quick shift gear mechanism, and the driver engagement is just wonderful as you work through the gears. Braking benefits from a new Alfaholics dual circuit brake kit and in very effective providing yet more confidence when you want to push on.
It’s an analogue driving experience that is incredibly rewarding and addictive and a reminder of why these cars are providing so popular as real drivers cars.
Once inside the cabin feels light and airy and a nice place to be. The dashboard is like new and is a real feature of the car. Everything works as it should. The desirable ‘flying buttress’ seats are a real feature of these series one 1750 GTV’s and they look beautiful in deep red leather. They are also incredibly comfortable and supportive.
New carpets have been fitted throughout along with the headlining which is the correct type.
The wheels are new replica Momo Vega alloys which were fitted in period with lower profile tyres which suit the car well.
The underside of the car presents is as clean and fresh as it is on top.
Overall, this represents a spectacular 1750 GTV with a huge amount of work done and significant investment made. This would be a perfect buy for someone considering restoring a car but wishing to avoid the wait or costs! With Alfaholics cars fetching the sums they are this represents an attractive proposition.
