1965 Porsche 911
Sale Price: SOLD
Yes, they are still out there. Here we have not quite a ‘barn find’ but certainly a car that has been off the radar for many years.
Crucially it has some historic significance. As confirmed by Porsche Australia this is a RHD Australian 1965 delivery 911 making it one of only a very few early RHD cars worldwide and certainly one of only a handful sold locally here. Importantly 1965 was the first year of 911 sales in Australia. The owner bought this this car in the early eighties and initially drove it quite regularly but then in recent years very sparingly. We understand the car ran within the last 2 years but has been stored away in a dry shed for many years.
This represents a fantastic restoration project for the serious Porsche collector.
We have confirmation from Porsche that the car was an original 911 Coupe (it currently has a 911S badge on the rear). They also confirm that the original colour was Bahama Yellow paint code 6605B. The later alloy wheels were added by the current owner, however, the original steel wheels and hub caps are still present. The engine is correct making it a ‘matching numbers’ car. Porsche have also confirmed delivery options of tinted glass, electric sunroof, antenna, Blaupunkt radio which is still present.
The interior has been changed from original during an older restoration including replacing the steering wheel and reupholstery of the seats in non-original fabric.
Whilst the paint is tired and cracked in places, the body appears solid without any evidence of significant rust or rot.
For anyone wishing to restore an early 911 this represents a fantastic opportunity. Not only is this car matching numbers but believed to be one of a handful of Australian delivered RHD cars. Further images and video are available to view for interested parties.
