Penned by Giorgetto Giugiaro at Bertone, the 105’s clean and distinctive design is one of the most attractive small coupes of the 1960s and 70s. The 2000 GTV was the final incarnation of the original design and benefited from Alfa Romeo’s larger 1932cc twin cam, all-aluminium, four-cylinder 1932cc engine. It produced an impressive 132 bhp along with a good level of useable torque which ensured the cars performance was better than many sports cars of the era.
Our example is in its original and attractive colour combination of Bianco Spino with ‘natural’ interior and was first delivered in April 1973 to Artarmon NSW, as confirmed by the Certificate of Origin which accompanies the car. The certificate also confirms the original engine is still with the car.
The current owner who is well known in the Alfa community purchased the car in 2021 and set about a complete restoration. Every part of the car has either been replaced or refurbished along with a bare metal repaint to a high standard. Since completion some 18 months the owner has done around 1,000 kms with the car including some longer club runs. The car is a superb example in every respect and drives without fault and is one of the best we’ve seen.
During the restoration the body was completely stripped (including the underside) with any compromised metal replaced. Once the paint was removed the shell was found to be in good order with only relatively minor bodywork required (this is fully documented). The car was then repainted in its original Bianco Spino which looks stunning and has been very well applied. The underside of the car is fresh and looks as good as it does on top.
The engine was thoroughly inspected and refurbished by a known marque expert and work included new rings and bearings, timing chains, head overhauled, new water pump and more. The twin carbs were also overhauled as was the gearbox. A pre-sale compression test has been completed with excellent readings.
All the stainless-steel brightwork is in wonderful order and sets the car off beautifully. The correct wheels are on the car and have been refurbished and are shod in the correct profile tyres.
The interior is just lovely with everything as it should be. An unmarked steering wheel greets you and the dash and dials are something that just looks perfect to the eye. The seats have been reupholstered in the original material and they are unmarked and really work well with the body colour of this car.
All the timber veneers, door handles, winders, carpets and switches are correct and in excellent order too. Crucially the binnacle and dash are like new – often they are cracked and it’s lovely to see these in perfect condition.
All the electrics have been checked and overhauled where required. Door and Quarter Window rubbers and door window guide felts and top trim felts are all replaced.
The odometer reads 86,441 miles, and whilst it is difficult to confirm as original, the known history from the current owner suggests that.
Turn the key and the engine fires up to a familiar Alfa growl. Out on the open road this car is just superb. The gearbox is excellent with no issues with the synchro’s. It is accurate, smooth, and quick to work through the gears and using it is quite addictive. The engine is responsive and pulls extremely well with the 2-litre engine delivering a more spirited drive.
This is one well sorted car and a driver’s delight. It begs to be taken out in the hills for a good blast. Alfa Romeo’s are drivers’ cars, and this one will not disappoint. Afterall life is too short.
The engine bay is pin sharp and appealing to the eye. The boot is currently fitted with new carpeting, but a correct rubber replacement can easily be sourced should the next owner wish to bring it back to its original supplied type, although this is a little less ‘lux’.

These 105’s are great driver’s cars, and we can see why they are so sought after. Freshly restored cars are still fetching north of $100,000 and this car represents good buying.
