1973 Alfa Romeo 2000 GTV

Sale Price: SOLD - Another wanted

Penned by Giorgetto Giugiaro at Bertone, the 105’s clean and distinctive design is one of the most attractive small coupes of the 1960s and 70s. The 2000 GTV was the final incarnation of the original design and benefited from Alfa Romeo’s larger 1932cc twin cam, all-aluminium, four-cylinder 1932cc engine. It produced an impressive 132 bhp along with a good level of useable torque which ensured the cars performance was better than many sports cars of the era.

Our example was delivered new to Australia in 1973 and it still in its original and stunning colour combination of Prugna with ‘natural leather Tex’ interior as confirmed by a letter from Centro Documentazione.

The car comes with a really excellent and detailed history from 1984 onwards (at its second owner) and the records suggest just 5 in total, the first 2 of which were in Perth where the car spent much of its life until moving to NSW in 2010. It arrived in QLD in 2011 and has been in the current ownership since that time.

This car has clearly seen the benefit of much work and expenditure in the past including new paint in 2000 an engine rebuild in 2006 with subsequent mechanical work keeping it in fine order. It still presents extremely well to this day. The body is in excellent all-round condition and the panel gaps are spot on. The odometer reading is 18,373 miles and records suggest that this is since the rebuild.

All the stainless steel brightwork is in wonderful order and sets the car off beautifully. The wheels have been refurbished and are unmarked.

The interior of the car is just lovely, with everything as it should be. A recently restored and original steering wheel greets you and the dash and dials are something that just looks perfect to the eye. Whilst the seats appear original, they are unmarked and in quite remarkable order as is all the timber veneer, internal handles, winders, carpets and switches.

Even the dashboard and binnacle look spot on, and the headlining is excellent too. The carpets are like new.

Turn the key and the engine fires up to a familiar Alfa growl. Out on the open road this car is just superb. The gearbox is excellent with no issues with the synchro’s. It is accurate, smooth, and quick to work through the gears and using it is quite addictive. The engine is responsive and pulls extremely well with the 2-litre engine delivering a more spirited drive.

This is one well sorted car and a driver’s delight. It begs to be taken out in the hills for a good blast.

The wheels are all perfect and the engine bay is clean and appealing to the eye. The boot mat appears original and the wheel well as expected is excellent. The underside whilst not spotless is sound and in good order throughout.

There is an original owner’s folder containing both instruction and service coupon booklets along with manuals and history indicating work done with Alfa Romeo specialists.

These 105’s are great driver’s cars, and we can see why they are so sought after. Freshly restored cars are still fetching well north of $100,000 and this car represents good buying. The car is serviced, on the button and ready to go.
