1978 Mini LS

This genuine 1978 Leyland Mini 1275 LS is an excellent original car and one we’ve known here at our workshop for many years. This car is for sale on behalf of one of our long term clients.  It’s largely original with excellent maintenance and recent work including carb rebuild, brakes, suspension and general service. This Mini has had much work done with us in recent years with around $10,000 worth of invoices to show for it. We’ve just completed a compression test (all 4 cylinders reading within 5 PSI) and it’s on the button and ready to go.

This Leyland Mini 1275 LS is a rare ‘runout’ version produced by Leyland in Australia, and was the last version of the original Mini to be produced locally (other than the Mini Moke). Only around 800-900 were made in just 2 colour options; Hi-Ho Silver or Golden Nugget which our car is finished in. The 1275 LS was intended to be a long term production model, representing the highest specification mini available in the Australian range. The most notable features included the 1275cc engine, larger front 8.4″ disc brakes and 12 inch wheels.

Our car has matching numbers and sits on 12 inch Minilites which look the part and are in excellent condition. The car comes with its original wheels and steering wheel along with some other parts.

The interior is original and as a Nugget Gold car it received oh so seventies chocolate brown cloth, with cream vinyl backing on the seat, and brown piping on the seam. This interior is in great condition. The roof lining has some staining but this could be cleaned or replaced. The floor carpets have some wear but can be replaced if the new owners wishes too.

The body is in excellent condition throughout. The only blemish in the paint being a very small rust spot on the rear window. The car has been resprayed and this has been applied well and shows an excellent depth of colour and glossy clear coat. The car also has a vinyl roof which was an optional extra and sets the car off well. This is in perfect condition.

Start the engine and you are greeted with that familiar Mini sound. Out on the road this car really wants to go with plenty of urge with its larger brakes really working well. It handles as you would expect…like a Mini. We drive a lot of these cars and they never fail to put a smile on your face. These really are a lot of fun for the money and these rare LS cars are now being recognised and gaining the recognition they deserve. A car in this condition and being so original is great buying.
