First launched in 1963 the Quattroporte was Maserati’s statement car for the luxury full sized 4 door sports car buyer – hence the name Quattroporte meaning ‘4 door’ in Italian.
It was and always has been a wonderful example of Italian style, elegance and performance coupled with stunning design from the best of Italy’s design houses.
Since 1963 there have been 6 generations of these wonderful machines, which sadly are no longer being produced, the last rolling off the production line last year.
Our 5th generation Quattroporte
Records confirm that this Quattroporte is a 2007 model and sold through Italia Motori in Sydney where it remained for most of its life. Importantly it comes with the later ZF 6-speed automatic gearbox, preferable to the earlier type of transmission.
Being the Executive GT model, it comes with numerous features that really add some special luxury touches to this magnificent car. This includes wood-rimmed steering wheel, a beautiful Alcantara-suede interior roof lining; ventilated, adaptive, massaging rear seats, rear air conditioning controls, veneered retractable rear tables, and curtain shades on all the rear windows. In addition, it appears our car was also delivered with optional 20’’ wheels and in a stunning ‘Bianco’ paint which has a fine pearl like metallic colour. These 2 options alone cost $30,000 when new.
The current owner informs us that this car was formerly owned by a service manager of Maserati in Sydney and during his ownership he lavished much attention on it. Certainly, based on its current condition it certainly presents that way.
The exterior is literally flawless. The paint is stunning and quite captivating to the eye. We could not locate a single mark anywhere. The wheels present in the same fashion. At some point in the past some of the exterior trim and wheel rims have been changed from its original colour to black which contrasts with the Bianco well and certainly gives the car some presence. In the light the metallic effect in the paint is just beautiful.
The interior of these cars is always a special place to be and being an Executive GT model, this is even better than ‘standard’.
The driver is greeted by a dash that is a work of art. The timber veneers are just stunning to the eye, and the dark blue leather with white piping is a feast to the eye. Wherever you look there is a perfect example of Italian style, craft and taste. I don’t think you’d ever tire of being part of this. All the leather is in fine order with only the most minimal signs of use on the driver’s seat and drivers footwell. Of note is that the current owner has ensured that the Apple Car Play interface is paired with the original head unit, interchangeable with just a simple application of a switch.
Turn the key and the theatre continues as you hear the Ferrari based V8. Blip the throttle and you know what potential this car has. Should you choose to engage in some spirited driving this car is quite extraordinary. Given its size, the handling is superb and the soundtrack intoxicating. Of course, as a relaxed luxury GT car it also delivers in spades.
The engine bay is virtually as new and presents beautifully. The previous owner being the Service Manager repainted the cam covers in red as the later cars had which is a lovely feature. He had this done when the cam variator work was completed. He also cleaned multiple components like suspension arms and bushes. Most recent work includes as part of a major service, new Spark Plugs, a Full Transmission service as well as having the DME/ECU sent away to be rebuilt to remove any electrical gremlins.
The boot space and carpet are in excellent order.
This is an excellent example of the Maserati Quattroporte in a fabulous colour scheme that has been cossetted throughout its life. It comes with its original owners’ books, keys and has just received a major service ready for its next custodian to have this special car in their life.
